Camping on Lake Wallenpaupack: Ledgedale, Ironwood Point, Wilsonville & Caffrey Compared

Brookfield Renewable, the utility that manages Lake Wallenpaupack under its federal hydroelectric license, runs four campgrounds directly on the water. All four require the land stay open for public recreation, and camping fees at each waive the boat launch fee for guests — a detail that can save real money over a multi-day stay.

Ledgedale Recreation Area — Greentown

The largest of the four, with 70 wooded sites offering electric and water hookups, a boat launch, kayak rentals, and a camp store. It sits at the lake's southern end, right next to the separate 80-acre Ledgedale Natural Area and its short hiking trail network — a good pick if you want a trail out your tent flap.

Ironwood Point Recreation Area — Greentown

A quieter, more wooded option directly on the lake's edge with straightforward fishing and boating access. It doesn't carry the amenity list Ledgedale does, which is exactly the appeal for campers who want fewer neighbors.

Wilsonville Recreation Area — Hawley

Roughly 160 sites directly on the lake, with boat slips and a launch, open roughly May through November. Wilsonville sits closest to Hawley's downtown and the Palmyra Township Public Beach — the only legal swimming spot on the lake — making it the best-located option if you want to walk to the beach rather than drive.

Caffrey Recreation Area — Lakeville

On the lake's northeast side, Caffrey offers boat storage and launch access alongside standard camping with fire rings. It's the closest of the four to Cove Haven Resort and the Lakeville marina cluster.

If you want amenities and a trailhead, choose Ledgedale. If you want quiet, choose Ironwood Point. If you want to walk to the beach and downtown Hawley, choose Wilsonville. If you're based on the lake's northeast shore near Lakeville, Caffrey is closest.
