Where to Stay Around Lake Wallenpaupack
Lake Wallenpaupack is one of Pennsylvania's oldest resort economies. The lake's creation in 1926 immediately triggered a hotel-building boom in Hawley — the Singer family opened a 14-room inn that's now Silver Birches, and the Hawley Chamber of Commerce built the hotel that became the Settlers Inn. A century later, that history is still what makes lodging here unusual: you can book a 1920s Arts & Crafts inn, a converted 1890s glass factory turned boutique hotel, an all-inclusive family resort, a lakeside campsite, or a private cottage with a boat assigned to it — all within about 20 minutes of each other.
Geography sorts the options. Hawley is the commercial hub and holds the densest cluster of rooms — historic hotels, boutique properties, motels along Route 6, and the Woodloch family of resorts. Lakeville, on the northeast side, is home to Cove Haven, the couples resort famous as the birthplace of the heart-shaped hot tub. Greentown and Tafton sit on the quieter south/west approaches, closer to Promised Land State Park's cabins and campgrounds and to lakefront cottage clusters.
Demand is real and mostly out-of-market — the region draws heavily from New York and Philadelphia — so July–August lake weekends and October foliage weekends are the tightest windows, while spring and November are the softest. Pick your category first, then your town.
