Lake Wallenpaupack Guide

Where to Eat Around Lake Wallenpaupack

Lake Wallenpaupack's 52 miles of shoreline are ringed by a dining scene that punches well above its weight for a rural corner of the Pocono Mountains. In a 15-minute radius you can get a Wine Spectator–awarded farm-to-table dinner, handmade pasta inside a 1902 bank vault, award-winning craft lager brewed a block from the water, and a steakhouse dinner in a dining room that's barely changed since 1999. Hawley is the commercial anchor, with the highest concentration of restaurants, cafés and bars along Main Avenue and inside the Hawley Silk Mill, while Greentown, Tafton, Lakeville and Greeley each keep their own tavern-and-grill traditions.

Three threads define the local table: water — restaurants that sit directly on the lake with decks and sunset views; craft beer — Wallenpaupack Brewing Co. and Jam Room Brewing Co. anchor a corner of the Pocono Beverage Trail, joined by Hopping Eagle Brewing and Log Tavern's Tafton taproom; and dessert as a landmark — Coutts Ice Cream, Gresham's Ice Cream Shoppe and a seasonal Rita's are as much a part of a lake day as the boat ramp.

The scene is unapologetically seasonal: summer boating traffic and fall foliage weekends fill the waterfront decks, while the year-round backbone is the townie taverns and pizzerias. Reserve ahead on summer Saturdays and foliage weekends.
